Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of heroes who will split off from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might look out of place, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his debts and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as key figures in House Halovar could help the party enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This results in them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Questers and Schemers groups.

Fans can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
